In the most unusual surprise to come from a programme of surprises in the Britain’s Got Talent Final televised last night Cameron Mackintosh announced one of his best and long running musicals Les Misérables was to return in concert format for 8 weeks from the 5th December this year at the newly refurbished Sondheim Theatre now to be fully coronavirus safety compliant.

Drawing from its success last year during renovations at the Sondheim, Les Misérables: The All-Star Cast Staged Concert which had a sell-out season at the Gielgud Theatre is being produced again for loyal fans.

Speaking about the return of the show, Cameron Mackintosh says on his website: “The beautiful new Sondheim Theatre will re-open its doors so audiences can once again leap to their feet thrilled by Victor Hugo’s timelessly uplifting story of the survival of the human spirit told through Boublil and Schönberg’s amazing iconic score – Let The People Sing.   Happy Christmas to us all.”

The all-star cast for the limited return of the ‘Les Mis’ concert will include West End legend Michael Ball playing Javert, the persistent pursuer who hunts Jean Valjean throughout France.   Alfie Boe will reprise the role of Jean Valjean, Carrie Hope Fletcher will play Fantine and Matt Lucas will be spinning ‘Master of the House’ duties as Thénardier.

Tickets will be on sale online on the Delfont Mackintosh website.
