Reflections in Selling Windows

“You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way”

This is an interesting solo story told by the author and actor, Kacie Rogers and directed by Jaquita Ta’le. It deals with issues of, loves lost, loves now, hopes and grief. The stage has a small table from which Kacie is going through the patter of selling windows; this is her day job.

It is what is going on in her mind and events both past and present that are of interest. She has a steady boyfriend of eight years; it has become too comfortable. When she tries to talk to him, he just rolls over and goes to sleep. In frustration she hits him.

She is currently undergoing psychotherapy for her aggression that started when she was at school.  This and other events are portrayed on a back projection screen with moving silhouettes.  We only see the puppeteers at the end. She remembers her life’s major events: a trip to New York for an audition for her big break as an actor only to be told she was not even going to be considered. She takes up with a married man and becomes his mistress with predictable results. Her mother rings her to tell her that her grandfather is very ill; she decides to stay where she is. Her mother rings, her Grandfather has died without seeing her.

Her compelling story is about how she is evolving.  Selling windows has lost its attraction and she wonders what to do next.  She constantly sings lyrics from Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”.  If you listen to the song, it could be about Kacie’s life, sadness and hopes for the future.

This is a good moving story written and told well by Kacie Rogers. You will find it telling on so many levels. I wish her well and recommend seeing it. I Sell Windows is awarded four fringe festival stars from Theatrevibe, the site that doesn’t do stars.
