REVIEW: Amélie the Musical, Criterion Theatre (2021)

What could be a better theme for this un Broadway musical than in the times of Covid to show kindness to others, and oneself!A musical adaptation of the French film about Amélie Poulain, (the charming Audrey Brisson) a waitress in a Parisian café, who day dreams about making a positive difference to the people around her.The question is whether Amélie can take a risk and show the same kindness to herself as she has shown to others.

REVIEW: Hairspray, Shaftesbury Theatre (2007) from our archive

The most amusing purported story about the London production of Hairspray is about a number of Michael Ball fans who have approached the Box Office asking for a refund. It seems that they have watched the show but report that Ball, the star of many West End musicals, did not make an appearance. Of course, if they have neither read the programme nor have seen the advance publicity, they indeed might not have recognised Michael Ball in a fat suit, wig and dame make up playing Tracy's mother Edna Turnblad.
